Durango city

Durango is one of 31 states that together make up the Federal District of Mexico's 32 states.
The name "Durango" comes from the founding of the town of Durango by Francisco de Ibarra, Spanish conqueror of the population from Eibar near the town of Durango in the Basque province of Vizcaya. Ibarra says
Although the state capital is popularly known as Durango, its official name is "Victoria de Durango" in honor of Mexico's first president, Guadalupe Victoria, who was originally from this state. Chihuahua is bordered to the north, east by Coahuila and Zacatecas, Nayarit to the south, the west by Sinaloa. It occupies the 4th place nationally on the surface. Among its major cities are Victoria de Durango, Gómez Palacio and Lerdo city.
